The recently released IDC MarketScape for OBS report analyzed the current capabilities and long-term strategies of 18 scale-out object storage vendors and placed DDN WOS squarely in the leader category. In the report, IDC recognized DDN’s reputation as a provider of HPC, data analytics, and content distribution solutions, as well as our ability to offer integrated, purpose-built hardware and software with integration services solutions. As a matter of fact, of the 18 vendors analyzed, DDN stands alone with the ability to provide an end-to-end data lifecycle management solution that seamlessly integrates the world’s fastest HPC storage platforms with ultra-efficient, scalable object storage and global content distribution into a single unified platform.
The report also offers “Essential Buyer Guidance,” highlighting the key characteristics to look for in object storage solutions including: platform scalability, data management, storage efficiency and data resiliency. While the aforementioned are important considerations and areas where WOS technology certainly excels, I would go a step further and add performance and network efficiency to the list. After all, performance (low latency and high throughput) in large part determines the breadth of application workloads and use cases any system can support, while network efficient features, such as local data rebuilds and local access, enable the system to maintain performance at scale or across distributed geographies. When considering large scale object storage solutions these two additional characteristics become very important.
Recognition as a leader in the IDC MarketScape Worldwide Object Storage Vendor Assessment is a strong confirmation of DDN’s vision, execution and of the scope and capabilities of the WOS object storage platform. As the demand for object storage continues to grow, DDN is well positioned to meet it.
