DDN | WOS Object Storage for OCP

DDN is proud to join the Open Compute Project (OCP)

About the OCP

The OCP was initiated by Facebook to reduce equipment and operating costs for hyperscale datacenter deployments. The OCP has established all new specifications for everything from how data centers are built & cooled, to where equipment is located, the size/composition of rack-mounted servers & storage, the physical racks themselves and the power that supplies them.

As part of our membership, DDN intends to offer the WOS object storage solution on the new OCP Open Vault storage unit. WOS enables high-speed access to data in the cloud from anywhere in the world – and is quickly becoming the de facto standard for hyperscale cloud storage environments. WOS is a pure object storage architecture, so there are no complicated POSIX file systems that slow performance or increase management headaches. WOS stores objects in an infinitely large flat address space that can contain billions of files. From a single, easy-to-use management interface, OCP users will build a global storage cloud that scales simply and limitlessly.

About the OCP Open Vault Storage Unit

Shown above, the Open Vault storage unit draft specification is a 2RU component. <21.1" W x 34.6" D> 30 HDD JBOD SAS storage enclosure, consisting of two identical 1RU HDD trays with 15 x 3.5" HDDs. See the draft specification at www.opencompute.org for more details.
