DataDirect Networks (DDN) Appoints Former Commander of US Navy Atlantic Fleet, Four Star Admiral Robert J. Natter to the Board of DDN Federal

DDN Expands Strategic Focus to Federal Agencies; Invests Significant Resources in Headcount, Tools and Processes to Better Serve Government Cybersecurity, Big Data and Cloud Computing Needs

CHATSWORTH, CA — (July 21, 2011) — DataDirect Networks (DDN), the world’s largest privately-held information storage company, today announced the appointment of Admiral Robert J. Natter to the Board of DDN Federal, a division of DDN that focuses on providing massively scalable, highly secure information storage and management solutions to US Federal and Security agencies.

Natter is a globally recognized leader in defense strategy and a highly decorated Navy Admiral who last served as Commander, US Atlantic Fleet/Fleet Forces Command. He now sits on the Board of several global companies including BAE Systems Inc, and is the president of R.J. Natter & Associates, LLC, a consulting firm. Natter is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval War College and has Masters Degrees in Business Management and International Relations.

“With increased attention paid to homeland security, the government’s ability to collect data has grown exponentially, however its ability to store and manage that data has not. For government and intelligence agencies, data management is a very real problem and DDN is a big part of the solution,” said Natter. “It is a great honor to join the Board of Directors for DDN Federal, which is perfectly positioned to help government and security agencies scale their data management capabilities in the most effective and cost-effective manner.”

“DDN is proud to work with the world’s strongest leaders in their fields, and this is again demonstrated by Admiral Natter joining our team,” said Alex Bouzari, DDN’s co-founder and CEO. “Bob is a true visionary who has spent a lifetime serving his country and who knows intimately the unique requirements of government and intelligence agencies. With his guidance, DDN Federal will continue to work with government to provide cloud, big data and highly scalable information management solutions to help them manage their unstructured data environments.”

According to published reports, the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security alone are expected to spend almost $43 billion in upgrading IT systems. With wide adoption within the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and several Intelligence Agencies, DDN already has an extensive track record in partnering with government to provide the most massively scalable data management systems available on the market today.

The creation of the DDN Federal Board of Directors is a validation of the company’s strategy in the highly competitive and highly demanding federal market and shows that DDN is attracting the right leadership for further success.
