New Custom-Designed Storage System by DDN Boosts Intel Omni-Path Fabric Speed in HPC, Web and Cloud Workflows by 100 Percent

DDN Omni-Connect is the Industry’s First Intel Omni-Path Enabled Storage Solution; Delivers 2x Higher Performance than Competing Alternatives

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – October 22, 2015

DataDirect Networks (DDN) today announced the industry’s first custom Intel Omni-Path enabled storage architecture, DDN Omni-ConnectTM. DDN Omni-Connect enabled storage platforms deliver best in breed cost and performance for the next generation of Web, Cloud and HPC data intensive environments with the need for Omni-Path connectivity.

Working collaboratively with Intel, DDN has designed converged and hyper-converged storage solutions to integrate seamlessly with new Omni-Path fabrics. These new DDN storage platforms are built on the high-performance SFA architecture, leverage DDN’s Infinite Memory Engine (IME) SSD acceleration software and utilize Omni-Connect to deliver a 10x reduction in cost/performance versus any competitive alternative.

“DDN is committed to bringing to market the complete end-to-end solutions necessary to solve large scale data problems in enterprises while enabling exascale initiatives in HPC. The introduction of DDN Omni-Connect as part of the DDN portfolio brings together the most advanced technologies to solve customer big data challenges,” said Bret Weber, vice president engineering and chief technology officer, DDN. “DDN’s technological and market leadership comes from our long-term investments in leading-edge research and development and the excellence of our employees and technology partners around the globe. Our close and long-standing collaboration with Intel bolsters DDN’s relentless focus to deliver the most innovative, cutting-edge HPC technologies to joint customers worldwide.”

DDN Omni-Connect is ideal for high node count Web, Cloud and HPC datacenters needing the ability to scale simply and cost-effectively. Omni-Connect enabled storage solutions are designed to integrate seamlessly into data centers with existing Ethernet or InfiniBand infrastructures while simultaneously connecting with a new Omni-Path fabric. Omni-Connect benefits and capabilities include:

  • High-availability, dual port design that delivers 2x more performance to compute, embedded application processors and storage than alternatives;
  • Up to 10x lower cost/performance ($/throughput) for end-to-end converged and hyper-converged solutions with SFA storage, IME SSD acceleration and Omni-Connect;
  • The only storage platform to offer mixed fabric support to new Omni-Path clusters and existing fibre channel or Ethernet storage.
