STORAGE SOFTWARE FOR SECURE
CLOUD AND ACTIVE ARCHIVE
DDN WOS is the most comprehensive object storage solution that is purpose-built to address the relentless growth of data in the most adaptable and efficient manner—all with the absolute minimum storage management required. Designed for a wide range of applications and use cases, WOS enables the creation of an almost limitless Exascale storage pool that delivers predictable and reliable high-performance at any scale.
As the only object storage platform that offers full flexibility in data protection schemes, WOS delivers performance and durability optimization that comply with all storage requirements. WOS simplifies deployment including support for a broad set of plug-and-play data access protocols including S3, Swift, NFS, SMB, Spectrum Scale and Lustre using an embedded or highly scalable gateways. A REST API is also included for custom app integration.

In this video, DDN Senior Product Manager Kurt Kuckein discusses the importance and value of incorporating WOS object storage into an archive strategy.
New data protection and multi-site connectivity options lower archive and disk backup costs
DDN’s newly released WOS data protection offering, Extended ObjectAssure™, expands customer choice of protection methods, resulting in the industry’s widest variety of data-protection options. WOS’s extremely low overhead expenses make the cost of object storage competitive with tape storage alternatives. It also enables faster rebuild times that lower the risk of data loss during a rebuild and eliminate or limit performance impacts from drive failures.
DDN’s expanded S3 multi-site capabilities bolster collaboration, disaster recovery and content distribution for customers with multi-site data sharing needs and provide fast, error-free data transfers. With DDN’s S3 interface, customers have a faster, cost-effective, secure and reliable alternative to public clouds.
“WOS is to be considered as a high-end solution. It is aligned with the rest of DDN’s products in terms of positioning (HPC and big data applications), performance, and scalability. The level of integration with other storage systems in the product line-up is remarkable and the architecture is very well designed.”

Ideal for use cases like content delivery, the WOS7000 appliance is purpose built to optimize all scalability and performance features of the WOS platform. HIghly flexible, the WOS7000 can come in a variety of configurations and capacities to meet a wide range of price and performance needs, and each appliance only consumes 4U of rack space.
Featuring both density and performance, the WOS 8460 appliance can meet even the most challenging object storage requirements. Designed for larger scale deployments, the 5U 84 drive system won’t get bogged by implementations that require the most performance and capacity in the minimum of floor space.
WOS Object Storage is also available as a solution for today’s software-defined data center, designed for customers requiring scalability and multi-geographic accessibility, and meets the needs of today’s modern enterprises in lowering CAPEX and OPEX by providing unparalleled scale, performance, density and efficiency.
WOS presents a single scalable storage pool that easily and seamlessly scales to trillions of stored objects and an Exabytes of capacity
Best of Both Worlds: Your choice of software or pre-built Appliances
Cloud Storage with single operational console for global management. 1 FTE can manage more than 20PB of WOS storage
Open API’s to all features allows for programmatic control of the system
Optional S3 and Swift Interface on every node provides access to multiple 3rd party applications
Highly secure with host of erasure coding schemes
99.999% efficiency to the raw disk platter
Significant Storage and Management Cost Reduction
WOS enables customers to build the perfect storage platform for any data type or size. The platform can be tuned to support any application that needs to store and access large volumes of unstructured data. Policies can be set per object, so one single WOS infrastructure can be used to support several applications. For example, it is perfectly possible to use WOS for a combined sync & share, DR and archiving solution – or to build a scale-out web application that will be generating billions of small files, but also needs to provide high throughput to stream high-resolution movies.

Each WOS7000 High Performance Appliance node is preconfigured with WOS software. This appliance node is a four-unit (4U), rack-mountable enclosure that houses two power cooling modules, two controllers, and slots for 60 disks. The controllers provide system management and host connectivity interfaces. The two controllers are redundant and hot-swappable modules, to enable failover and seamless online upgrades. The WOS7000 is also available as a single controller model for deeper archive use cases.
Featuring both density and performance, the WOS8460 appliance can meet even the most challenging object storage requirements. Designed for larger scale deployments, the 5U 84 drive system won’t get bogged by implementations that require the most performance and capacity in the minimum of floor space. WOS8460 is fully configured with rack mounts for 19” wide racks, and is five EIA units (5U) high that includes a 4U enclosure which can house 84 drives and a 1U Object Storage Node. The front of the enclosure has enclosure and disk status as well as disk activity LEDs, which are visible through the front bezel.
To help deliver the industry’s most powerful Object Storage platform into existing multi-petabyte environments, or instances where hardware replacement is not an option, WOS is also available for software-only deployments on pre-approved third party systems.
